Freelance Writer and Editor, Founder of FooteNotes (Madison, WI and Ottawa, Ontario, 2001–present)

Marketing and Brand Management:
  • Created the official style guide for AT&T Wireless, standardizing language usage throughout all marketing and customer communications. Wrote market segmentation and media standards and produced final hyperlinked document in Word and pdf.
  • Wrote member features and technical help files for Classmates.com’s new website launch.
  • Wrote and edited website content and PR materials for Redweek.com. Also conceptualized, wrote and managed production of company brochures.
Educational and Learning Tools:
  • Edited online training materials for corporations including Taco Bell, Home Depot and various private security firms.
  • Wrote and edited instructional materials for The Excellence Foundation.
  • Edited scientific and medical manuscripts for TheScientificWorld.com.
Admissions Consulting:
  • Edited admissions essays, resumes, recommendation letters and other application materials for medical and business school applicants. (Ongoing contract with Accepted.com since 2001.)
  • Co-authored three e-books and numerous articles on the admissions process.
Grant Preparation:
  • Edited grant proposals for the Puget Sound Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology. Also compiled and edited the Center’s annual reports.

  • Wrote feature articles and checklists for Meredith Publishing’s Connections magazine.

  • Served as “final eyes” on all e-mail and website content, ensuring accuracy, clarity and company voice.
  • Wrote marketing content (business plans, presentations, flyers and press releases), website and e-mail content (features, help files and e-mail newsletters), and technical requirements for the successful launch of the reunion product line.
  • Managed daily site production calendar, working with product and program managers, writers, graphic designers and IT team to coordinate timely site updates and new product releases.
  • Managed external and internal resources for on-time delivery of a complete site redesign.

Division Manager, University of Washington School of Medicine (Seattle, WA, 19972000)
  • Edited medical journal submissions, manuscript reviews and business plans.
  • Wrote and edited instructional and marketing materials for website, PR and development campaigns; also wrote technical requirements and managed production of extranet for 50 satellite clinics.
  • Managed daily operations of faculty physician office including staff supervision and fiscal reporting.

Editor / Proofreader, SicolaMartin Marketing & Advertising (Austin, TX, 1996)
  • Edited user manuals, white pages and other advertising, and marketing and branding materials. Enforced correct usage of corporate and product style guides and trademarks.
  • Wrote marketing collateral for company’s brochures and website.
  • Created text and graphic style guides for internal and client use.
  • Managed the Intranet content calendar and produced all scheduled updates in HTML.
